Why a Gym Membership is a Mistake When it Comes to New Year's Resolutions

What is it about working out that makes so many people with great intentions lose drive after a small amount of time? Even after they buy a gym membership, get all the right clothes, new shoes, and the latest and great energy drink, the passion is gone shortly after January 30th.

New Year's resolutions have become somewhat of a joke. The excitement and good intentions are great, but the follow through is amazingly pathetic. The key ingredient is the "D" word; discipline. Discipline is one of the hardest things to implement in life. It takes daily sacrifice and hard work. And yet, it is the only way that good health from a regular workout schedule is going to be successful.

If you are one of the thousands of people who own a gym membership and use it only a few times a month, stop paying for this and start working out at home. You can get the same, if not better results by simply using the resources around you and save $30 to $100 per month! Here are a few ideas:

Try looking for free YouTube videos that show you how to do different workouts and other at-home exercises. There are plenty of them out there, and you may end of finding something that is worth purchasing later on. You can find other videos at Mypipeline.com. Find a few things that you like and use them to propel you forward. Working out does not have to feel like a chore. Believe it or not you can have fun while getting healthy.

Another thing you can do is to go to your local park. Use the playground as your person workout station. You can do pull-ups, sit-ups, dips, calf raises, squats, push-ups, and tons of other exercises for free at the park. You also get to enjoy the fresh air which is much healthier than any stinky smelly gym.

Finally, jog around your neighborhood. Running, jogging and even walking are some of the best things you can do to stay healthy. Find a partner to run with you so that you can both motivate each other. If you hate jogging, then consider taking up a sport. Make it work for yourself.

Do not cancel your gym membership if you actually use it. But for the majority of people who do not use their membership as often as they should, get rid of it and find a system that works for you at home. Make every dollar of your hard earned money count, do not waste it on something that you lack the discipline to use.
