Best New Year's Eve Hors D'oeuvres

With the holidays just around the corner, it’s time to start creating all of your menu plans. If you’re a fan of tradition then you probably won’t have to put too much thought into your Thanksgiving or Christmas feasts, but New Years is a completely different story. Tradition doesn’t really dictate a specific menu, so you can easily be creative and make up your own traditions as you go this year, whether they involve black caviar or cheese whiz and crackers it sure to be a fun planning process. If you’re searching for some great hors d’oeuvres to add to the meal, then check my suggestions below. 1. Chips and dip. This is a classic appetizer that your guests certainly won’t turn their noses up at. While it’s a classic choice, you can still make it incredibly delicious and unique. If you choose tortilla chips and salsa, consider making your own salsa from scratch. You’ll just need some tomatoes, onions, cilantro, lemons and salt and pepper. You can also go with potato chips and French onion dip. Just make sure the potato chips aren’t you ordinary grocery store variety. Aim for baked or kettle and be sure to make the dip from scratch as well. 2. Hummus and pitas. There are various ways to make the perfect hummus from scratch, so just try to incorporate your favorite flavors into the mix. Roasted red pepper will give the hummus a nice kick, or you can even make almond hummus if you are looking to give it a sweeter touch. When choosing pita bread, make sure that it is soft and fresh. You may even want to just cut up some flat bread. When serving hummus and pitas, its best to cut the bread into small triangles and serve them around a small bowl of the hummus. 3. Bruschetta. This is another great pre-meal treat. There are endless bruschetta recipes out there, so again just incorporate some of you favorite flavors and be original. Don’t opt for the most basic tomatoes and cilantro version; make the evening special with some Brie and Walnut oil bruschetta or some artichoke bruschetta. You really can’t go wrong as long as you’re creative. Your New Years Eve is sure to be a tasty evening as long as you plan ahead for the perfect menu items. Just be sure to taste test all of the items before serving them on the big night.
